Have you stopped being able to see the bottom of your homes pool? Has your water turned from a Caribbean Aqua to an opaque green? Does your pool resemble something you’d see in a swamp and not in a Kansas City backyard? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions you are probably in need of an acid wash, and Kansas City Pool Company can do it for you! It’s just one of the many pool services we provide to our clientele.
What is an Acid Wash
An acid wash is a deep clean strategy used to permeate your pools plaster façade. If you’re without a vinyl liner, acid washing is an amazing way to restore your pools integrity and functionality. Acid washing fights against hard water build up (calcium deposits) as well as algae. Its deep reaching properties kill bacteria that can infringe upon your pools functionality. Acid washing provides a deep down clean by essentially removing exterior layers of plaster, while reaching deep into the other layers killing bacteria on the spot. Acid washing returns pools to their original look through the application of hydrochloride.
When to Use an Acid Wash
An acid wash is mandatory when your pool has been subjected to improper maintenance, and exposed to long term algae growth. Being able to tell if your pool has been neglected is easy—despite your cleaning practices your pools water will continue to darken and appear murky. If your pool has been exposed to long term algae growth, it is likely that the algae have permeated the top layers of your pools plaster. Algae will continue to grow from the interior levels of plaster if an acid wash is not used.
The Acid Wash Process
Acid washing can only be accomplished when the pool is empty. The application of hydrochloride will remove the top layer of plaster and kill underlying bacteria. Hydrochloride is applied and left to rest and then sprayed down. Often two or three acid washes are needed to prevent against future algae growth. This process should only be attempted by professions such as the Kansas City Pool Company, as dealing with harsh chemicals such as hydrochloride, must be applied by a professional.
How Much Does Acid Washing Cost?
To determine the cost of your pools acid washing, an onsite inspection is mandatory. Many factors affect the cost of acid washing, including the length of exposure to algae, the current condition of the pool, as well as whether it needs to be drained or not. Acid washing can be applied to any plaster pool type, but its’s costs are also dependent upon the shape and size of the pool structure. Acid washes can typically be accomplished in a few days, with the length of the project determined by factors such as size, draining and exposure to the elements. Pools that are slightly murky will require less work than those whose water may have turned black.
